Rome, the Most Amazing Tourist Spot in the World

Rome is one of the world's top tourist spots with world famous landmarks, ancient ruins, exquisite churches, and trendy neighborhoods. One visit compels you to visit again and again.

Pantheon

The Pantheon built in 126 AD was a Roman Temple with a surprising oculus that is the building's main source of natural light. The Pantheon of Agrippa also known as the Roman Pantheon is one of the architectural masterpieces of the Rome. It is the best preserved building from ancient Rome. It was first built in the year 27 BC and was destroyed in a fire in 80 AD. The present Pantheon was rebuilt in 126 AD. In 7th century AD, the Pantheon was donated to Pope Boniface IV, who converted it into a church, which to this day is functioning as a church.

The Roman Forum

The Roman Forum, which is one of the greatest signs of ancient splendor of the Roman Empire today, is most visited place in Rome. After the fall of the Empire, the Roman Forum was forgotten and little by little it was buried under the earth. Although in the 16th century the existence and location of the Forum was already known it was not until the 20th century that excavations were carried out. Interestingly, the place where the Forum was built was originally a marshy area. In the 6th century B.C. the area was drained by means of the Cloaca Maxima, one of the first sewer systems in the world.

Colosseum

The Colosseum is the main symbol of Rome. It is an imposing construction that with almost 2,000 years of history will take you back in time to discover the way of life in the Roman Empire. The construction of the Colosseum began in the year 72 under the empire of Vespasian and was finished in the year 80 during the rule of the emperor Titus. After completion, the Colosseum became the greatest Roman amphitheatre measuring 188 meters in length, 156 meters in width and 57 meters in height.

Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain, measuring 20 meters in width by 26 meters in height is one of the most beautiful fountains in Rome. The origins of the fountain go back to the year 19 BC in which period the fountain formed the end of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct. People throw coins into the Fontana di Trevi. The first fountain was built during the Renaissance, under the direction of Pope Nicholas V. The final appearance of the Trevi Fountain dates from 1762. Interestingly enough, the name of Trevi derives from Tre Vie meaning three ways since the fountain was the meeting point of three streets.
